A Webinar Explained

July 24, 2018 / By Bruce McDuffee

A Webinar is short for Web-based seminar. It’s also called a web conference or online seminar, and it is an online presentation, meeting, presentation, workshop, or lecture that’s transmitted over the Internet via video conferencing software. The software allows webinar participants to share apps, documents, and audio with other attendees. There also options for live streaming or recording a webinar and publishing it on YouTube.

Webinar Features
Ability to send, receive, and discuss information in real-time (interactivity) is the main feature of live webinars.

The main features of the webinars are

  1. Text chat
  2. Ability to download/watch videos and presentations
  3. Multidirectional conference
  4. Recording webinars for further viewing
  5. Sharing of the presenter’s desktop for viewing
  6. Polls and surveys
  7. Digital board

How Does a Webinar Work?
While sitting in front of his or her computer, the organizer communicates with the audience using a headset, microphone, and webcam. They display digital pictures, graphs, keynotes, and tables to the attendees who communicate (via text chat), listen and watch. The tutor can then answer to comments and questions received from the conversation. An event recording link is usually sent to the attendees on dedicated media, in case they want to watch it again or have missed the meeting.

What do webinars require?
For webinar organizers, headset, webcam, webinar hosting system, and Internet access are vital. Webinar attendees need an audio headset (microphone, headphones) and Internet access. Today, with the development of cloud technologies and out-of-the-box video conferencing solutions, you can do everything without having to install any software. As for the equipment, many computers come with everything loaded. You can find tutorials and explanations of how to hold a webinar on YouTube or search engines. Pay particular attention to the headset and the room where you’ll host your webinars.

Convenience and Effectiveness of Webinars
Webinars are very convenient for both attendees and seminars because webinars make conferencing more useful and timely. You can log in to your workplace, home, vacation, or business trip, and participate in a webinar. There’s no need to rent a venue for your conferences because conferencing is only a few clicks away.

You can create seminars, educational courses, and conferences where you can provide a promotional display for your new line of products or host a lecture to teach something. Or, it could be both. Also, webinars are great tools for conducting live interviews with industry experts, which often draws more people to attend your webinars.
